While Preschoolers and Toddlers are pretty easy to buy for, the mysterious school agers can be a tad harder.
Legos: We have to hide the Legos occasionally. Yup, the kids get so obsessed with building they don’t want to do ANYTHING ELSE!! They are incredibly creative and we have seen them build some amazing things!
Perler Bead Set: Want your child to be quiet for hours? Buy them this. They litereally will sit and painstakingly create detailed pictures on these boards. But be ready to whip out that iron!
Puzzles: Boys and girls alike love putting together puzzles. This summer we couldn’t find enough to keep them busy! We went from 500 piece to 1000 pieces to 1500! They are so proud of their accomplishment too!
Ticket to Ride: This is a great strategy game for kids! I was unsure if my video game loving boys would play, but they wanted to play all day!!! If you find that you enjoy it, there are many adult versions as well!
Mastermind: This was one of my childhood favorites! I was thrilled when our school age group caught on quick and it became their favorite as well!
Magnetic Tiles: I mentioned these in my Guide for Preschoolers as well. They are popular with all ages! This is a great building tool that the kids will create with for hours!
Five Crowns: Our older school ages kids LOVE this gave! In fact our family plays this game often on Family Game nights! It is a fantastic way for kids to work on those math skills too!
IQ Builder– Another popular building toy they don’t want to stop playing with! They build the most creative structures and tell stories to go with them. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself build right along with them!
Marble Run: Trial and error and cause and effect are the name of the learning game. It’s fund to watch kids figure out different ways to build their marble run and create new ways too!
Junie B. Jones: Perhaps Junie is the Ramona of the 2000’s. She quirky, she’s fun, she gets in trouble. These are very popular books in our school age group. This is a character kids can identify with and will want to read more!
Magic Tree House: A truly magical book series that take children back into different times. It’s books like these than help children learn to love reading!

Art Kit: Every kid loves an art kit! This one has it all! They can create, glue, and DIY to their hearts content!
Gross Science/STEAM kit: If it’s gross, kids love it. This kit is gross, science, STEAM in one! Kids will learn about measurements, reactions, following directions all while grossing YOU out!
Giving gifts that are educational shouldn’t be boring! It can be the gift that will easily become their favorite!!!
